Some twenty plus years ago, newly back in Manhattan, I decided to walk the 13 mile length of Broadway. An early summer Sunday, beginning with the subway north to what would be 220th Street at the bridge over Spuyten Duyvil. And then I began walking south with my even-then-ancient 35mm camera loaded with black and white film. Inwood, Washington Heights, Morningside Heights, Manhattan Valley—well, you get the idea—winding up at Bowling Green by the Staten Island Ferry terminal some 14 hours later.
